I rarely cook salads with mayonnaise, even less often - puff, but French salad is an exception to the rule. Delicate and incredibly juicy, this salad is relevant at any time of the year. The combination of fresh vegetables, apples, herbs, eggs and cheese is refreshing, nutritious and very light. Such a salad will decorate the table on weekdays and bring a pleasant variety to the festive menu.

You can find various versions of this salad online. The main ingredients in them are identical - fresh carrots, apples, eggs and cheese. Differences in the little things - someone adds meat, and someone adds nuts and pineapples.

Each option is interesting in its own way, but the simplest vegetable version of a salad with fresh herbs in the composition is closest to me. Such a "French" salad turns out to be very light and vitamin, besides, all the ingredients for its preparation are almost always at hand.

Well, so that the salad does not get lost on the festive table, I want to offer you an idea for its unusual design. Orange "carrot" made from puff pastry with bright "tops" of dill - in this "outfit" the "French" salad with apple and carrots will surely captivate guests not only with its taste, but also with its appearance! Let's start ?!

Prepare ingredients according to the list. Boil the eggs.

Chop the onion finely. To soften its taste, add apple cider vinegar, stir and let sit for 5-7 minutes. Alternatively, you can pour boiling water over the onion.

Prepare all the ingredients of the salad. Grate carrots and cheese, chop greens.

Separate the egg yolks and whites and rub as well. Finally, grate the apples before you start picking the salad.

In order to prepare and serve "French" salad in portions, use the form - a ring. If you, like me, do not have such a form, then it can be made from improvised means. You can glue a cardboard ring and wrap it in foil or cling film, or a faster option is to cut a piece of a plastic bottle that fits in height.

Place the dish on a plate and you can start assembling the salad.

The first and second layers are the juiciest - onion and apple. I usually mix them. Acetic acid prevents apples from darkening, and the taste is softer.

Add a layer of mayonnaise and a pinch of salt and pepper. I use homemade mayonnaise and add minimal amounts.

Arrange the rest of the layers in random order. I have this: dill, egg white, carrots, egg yolk, cheese.

Add a little mayonnaise, salt and ground black pepper between layers.

The salad can be served immediately, but if you let it steep a little, it will become even tastier.

I cover the form with cling film and place it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.

Now I will tell you about another simple and effective way of decorating and serving "French" salad - in the form of a "carrot".

Defrost and roll out the puff pastry if necessary. Cut the dough into strips 2 cm wide.

Wrap the cone shapes with foil. You can use special metal cones or roll a regular sheet of paper into a cone.

Wrap the strips of dough around the cones to form "carrot tubes".

When rolling the dough, try to make the edges of the strips touch and go over each other. This will make the tube whole.

Mix the egg yolk with the orange food coloring.

Brush the surface of the dough with yolk.

Place the carrots in the oven and bake for 10-13 minutes at 180-200 degrees.

Remove the forms and refrigerate the carrot tubes.

Fill the chilled tubes with salad.

Decorate the top of the tubes with dill sprigs.

Our carrot salad is ready! The salad can be served immediately or let it brew a little.
