When you are fond of cooking, it often happens that you go very far from the food you are used to in the performance of your mother and grandmother - just in order to try something new and interesting, to learn the unknown. But I think every adult is happy when he eats something familiar to him from childhood. So today, with great pleasure, I will show and tell you how to prepare a classic cod liver salad - an old-old elementary recipe of Soviet times, from simple ingredients that were available to everyone then.
There were small variations - in one family they liked that, in the other they did not like it, but the general composition was always approximately the same. Canned cod liver salad was usually prepared in cold weather, when there were no fresh vegetables and fruits - after all, cod liver contains vitamins A, D and C in large quantities. On many tables, this dish was traditionally present on holidays from New Year to Easter.
The set of ingredients in general is as follows: canned cod liver, potatoes, eggs, pickled or pickled cucumber, onions (both white and red), salt. One ingredient other than cod liver and salt may be missing. I know of three options for dressing - with butter from a tin can with cod, with mayonnaise and with sour cream. Well, a sprig of parsley for a festive decor is sacred !!!
Put the potatoes and eggs to boil immediately. While they are boiling, finely chop the onion and pickled cucumber.
If the salad dressing is made with sour cream or mayonnaise, then drain the cod liver oil, otherwise it will be fatty. Lightly knead the liver with a fork.
Clean the boiled eggs and cut them into small cubes.
We clean the boiled potatoes and also cut them into small cubes or three on a coarse grater, there was such an option. I didn't see them to rub the eggs.
Stir all the ingredients well together with the dressing and salt.
You can use the classic cod liver salad right away or let it stand for several hours, which is not the last thing for a recipe for the holiday.
