Probably, every country has its own salad with herring, in Russia it is the well-known herring under a fur coat. I want to tell you how a classic German herring salad is prepared. Boiled meat is added to it, mainly beef, but it may be different, today I took a chicken breast, of course, the taste of the salad will change insignificantly from what kind of meat is taken, nevertheless, the salad turns out to be very tasty, like among other things, and all salads with herring. This salad can be served as a separate dish with bread, or used as a snack. I want to note that today, not even all Germans are familiar with this version of the salad and many do not add meat, this is a classic version - the way it was prepared maybe 100 years ago.

Trust, but verify - this is my motto, it is not always possible to trust the Internet, therefore, the first thing I asked my chef, the chef, is it true that meat is added to the German salad with herring. True! But, as I said before - in the classic version, which few people already do.

Let's start and take such products, we take the quantity to taste, I wrote how much I had, but you can take other proportions:

Boil the meat and potatoes, if you haven't already, cut them into pieces. Cut the herring into pieces.

Apples (I have two small ones), pickles and onions are also cut into cubes. I don’t peel apples.

Boil eggs and beets and also chop finely.

We mix everything.

Salt, pepper, add sugar, sour cream and mayonnaise (or one thing) to taste. Since my beets are already ready from a jar, I did not add vinegar, because they already taste sour, but there are also options with the addition of vinegar. Apples give sourness too.

Stir and let the salad stand for 4 hours and soak.

Serve with bread.
