Herring under a fur coat is a traditional festive dish. I would like to suggest that you add one ingredient to your usual recipe, which will help give your salad a varied shape, and not just the layers of salad that are habitually on a plate. This ingredient is gelatin, and we will cook the herring under a fur coat in jelly. Put the salad in tins in layers, and thanks to the jelly you will get a beautiful portioned dish.

Ingredients for making herring under a fur coat in jelly.

Boil vegetables and eggs. Clean all ingredients.

Cut the onions into thin rings or small cubes. Prepare the marinade with hot water, vinegar and sugar and marinate the onions for 30-40 minutes.

Peel the herring from skin and bones and cut into small pieces.

Grate vegetables (potatoes, carrots, beets) and eggs and place in separate bowls.

Prepare jelly. Dissolve gelatin in 100 ml of water until smooth and combine with mayonnaise, mix thoroughly.

To prepare the salad molds, I use silicone ones, since it is very convenient to take out the finished dish from them. Salt the grated beets and combine with mayonnaise, mix and put in the first layer in a mold. We will lay out the salad in forms in layers, in reverse from the usual recipe.

Salt the grated carrots as well as the beets and combine with mayonnaise. Put the next layer on the beets.

This is followed by a layer of eggs, pickled onions and herring. Also combine eggs with mayonnaise before laying.

The final layer is grated potatoes mixed with mayonnaise. Lay the layers tightly and put the salad in the cold for 3-4 hours.
