Classic French onion soup is a delicious hot and hearty dish. Sometimes I cook such soups for my family for a change. Soup preparation is not difficult and the ingredients are very economical and simple.
Ingredients
Onions - 0.5 kg
Chicken broth - 500 ml
Butter - 50 g
Wheat flour - 1 tbsp. l.
Hard cheese - 100 g
White baguette or loaf - 1/2 pc.
Olive oil - 10 ml
Salt - 1.5 tsp

Ingredients for a classic onion soup.
Peel the onion and cut into thin half rings.
Melt the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan or skillet.
Add chopped onions to butter and sauté for 20 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Cut the loaf or French baguette into pieces.
Brush with a few drops of olive oil, put on a baking sheet and put in the oven to dry.
The onions have become transparent and the aroma of fried onions with butter spreads everywhere.
Pour flour to the onion, stir and fry for another 5 minutes. Add salt and stir.
Pour in the broth, stir and simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.
Pour the prepared soup into bowls, grate the cheese.
Sprinkle the cheese over the soup, place the croutons directly on the soup and sprinkle with the cheese again.
Put plates of soup in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve ready-made French onion soup immediately to the table.
