And in order to make it also look civilized, mashed potato soup with fried potatoes is just the best option. The problems of novice culinary specialists when cooking fried potatoes are so diverse that I’m just too lazy to list them in detail (but I remember myself that there are many of them, bizarre and different). So, all of them can be solved by adapting this very unsuccessful potato (burnt, overdried, oversalted or collapsed) into the soup. After all, mashed potatoes with fried potatoes always turn out beautiful, tasty and neat, and no one will ever guess in their life that it was preceded by some kind of mess.
Normally, I make mashed potato soup because of the curmudgeon category. Those. I would have had yesterday's potatoes to start making the soup. But let's, perhaps, reproduce the full cooking cycle so that you can see that this soup is also obtained from burnt potatoes.

So that the potatoes are burnt on one side, and on the other not fried yet, do not stir them; and in order for the onion to burn, we introduce it too early, at the very beginning of cooking. Well, that's if you want a defective potato. If you need a normal one, do it in any usual way that does not let you down. If you want yesterday's potatoes to go to the soup with fried potatoes, they should accordingly be allowed to stand until the next day. To do this, you need not finish it.

Fill the fried potatoes with water and let them boil. Cook for about 5 minutes from the moment of boiling over low heat.
