Lard can be used fresh from the freezer or already salted. My bacon with a layer came to me from Ukraine, so it was already salted. We take local potatoes, preferably sweet varieties, which redden well and are easy to boil.

Peel the onions and potatoes. Cut the bacon into small strips to make it easier to melt.
