Ingredients

Long grain rice - 1 cup

Green lentils - 1 glass

Vegetable oil - 2-3 tbsp. l.

Cumin - up to 0.5 tsp.

Mustard seeds - up to 1 tsp.

Curry - 0.5 tsp

Tabasco (or green pepper) - to taste

Lemon juice - 80-100 ml.

Sesame oil - 1 tbsp l. (or sesame flour - 2 tsp.)

Cinnamon - 0.5-1 stick

Chile to taste

The combination of rice (different varieties: basmati, jasmine, etc.) with lentils (green, yellow, etc. varieties) turns out to be a very satisfying and tasty dish in the Indian style. It is essentially a variation on the recipe known as Nimbu Chawal or Lemon Rice. It can be used as a side dish or main course during fasting.

Prepare rice, lentils, lemon, vegetable oil, cumin, cinnamon, curry, mustard seeds, tabasco (or green pepper), sesame oil, or flour and salt.

Boil the lentils, for example in a container in the microwave on MAX 15 minutes.

In a deep skillet / saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat along with the cumin, cinnamon and mustard seeds.

After the color of the cumin seeds has changed, add the washed and drained rice and cook for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, over medium heat.

Dissolve curry and salt in a little water.

When the rice becomes transparent (this is from its frying in oil), add 2-3 cups of water (depending on the type of rice) and half a glass of curry and salt water (prepared in another step). Bring to a boil and simmer for one minute, then simmer under a lid over low heat for about twenty minutes.

Add lentils, lemon juice, a little zest, sesame flour and tabasco to the finished rice, mix gently.

Cook for a couple of minutes without a lid and the rice and lentils are ready.
