Nasi Lemak is a very popular dish in Malaysian cuisine. Despite the fact that translated from Malay it is "fat rice", it is served, oddly enough, mainly for breakfast. The peculiarity of cooking rice is that it is cooked in coconut milk, hence it turns out to be very fatty and high in calories.
Nasi Lemak is traditionally served with dry anchovies, spicy Sambal adjika, fried peanuts, fresh cucumber and boiled egg as a main course, but it can also be a side dish with fish or meat curry.
Let's prepare the products according to the list and prepare Nasi Lemak.
It is better to take long-grain rice. Rinse the rice well in several waters. Then transfer the rice to a thick-walled saucepan with a non-stick bottom. Fill it with water.
Cut the ginger root into slices and put it in the rice.
The original recipe uses shallots, mine uses red onions. Chop the onion very finely. We also spread the onion with rice.
Add coconut milk to the rice and mix well. Cook rice for 35-40 minutes over very low heat. It is advisable not to interfere with the rice. You can cook this rice in a rice cooker or slow cooker. Salt the finished rice and add a little sugar to balance the taste.
Nasi Lemak is served on banana leaves, with slices of fresh cucumbers, sambal, roasted peanuts, dried anchovies and egg slices.
Nasi Lemak is a tasty, aromatic, completely self-sufficient and very satisfying dish! Enjoy your meal!
