Video recipe: Lentil porridge in a slow cooker

Step by step recipe with photos and videos

We are used to cereal porridge. Buckwheat, millet, oatmeal … But porridge can also be made from legumes - for example, lentil. Today I use red lentils for cooking, the one that is closer in color to orange rather than brown. It boils down much faster and does not require pre-soaking. We will cook lentil porridge in a multicooker, which will make the cooking process even easier.

For cooking, in addition to lentils, take onions, carrots and garlic - for the juiciness of the porridge. I also use dried herbs for flavor: marjoram and basil. I decided to add spiciness with the help of a seasoning containing red pepper, very similar to dry adjika. I put a piece of butter into the ready-made porridge, which makes the dish softer and smoother in consistency, and certainly more delicious. Well, we're getting started!

Cut the peeled onion into small cubes. Finely chop the garlic with a knife - you can use a garlic press.

Rub the peeled carrots on a fine grater.

We shift the vegetables into the multicooker bowl preheated with vegetable oil. Simmer vegetables for 10 minutes until soft. I used the "Bake" mode.

Meanwhile, rinse the lentils thoroughly under running water.

Put in a bowl with vegetables. Add spices to taste: salt, marjoram, basil, dry adjika.

Fill the contents of the bowl with hot water, stir, set the "Porridge" mode and cook under the lid for 15-20 minutes until the desired consistency. You can cook until the signal, when the multicooker turns off by itself, but by this moment your porridge will most likely become very thick, and all the moisture has boiled away. Therefore, I advise you to control the cooking process to get the desired result.

Pour black pepper into the finished porridge, add salt to taste, and also season with butter.

Stir and leave to reach readiness in the already turned off multicooker for 5-10 minutes.

Lentil porridge in a slow cooker is ready! Serve with fresh vegetables and bread, garnished with fresh herbs. Enjoy your meal!

Important additions to the recipe

Ready-made porridge can be served as a separate dish or as an addition to cereals, pasta, potatoes. Also, porridge goes well with fresh bread, herbs and vegetables.

  • To taste, you can add chopped fresh herbs to the finished porridge - this will make the dish even more useful and aromatic. For serving, I used fresh basil sprigs.
