Most often, the word "hodgepodge" means the first dish with a rich taste, an abundance of meat products and salted or pickled vegetables in broth. But there is also such a hodgepodge that belongs to the second courses. This is a vegetable stew, the essential ingredients of which are sauerkraut and pickles, with the addition of meat or fish products. Such a hodgepodge is baked in the oven.

To prepare a hodgepodge, you need to take sauerkraut, onions, carrots, pickled cucumbers, canned fish in tomato sauce, refined sunflower oil, bread crumbs and parsley.

Peel the onions, cut in half, and then chop each half into thin half rings.

Peel the carrots and grate them on a coarse grater.

Put the onion in a preheated pan with oil, lightly fry and add carrots to it.

Saute everything together for 5 minutes.

Put squeezed sauerkraut into the onion-carrot mass and pour 1 glass of hot water.

Simmer, covered, until cabbage is soft.

Peel the pickled cucumbers, cut into halves lengthwise, remove the seeds and chop finely across.

Place the cucumbers in a small saucepan, pour a little water and simmer until soft.

Add boiled cucumbers to cabbage.

Mix the vegetable mass thoroughly.

Grease a baking dish with oil and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.

Put half of the cabbage in a container and flatten.

Mash canned food into pieces with a fork.

Spread canned food on top of the cabbage in an even layer.

Cover the fish with the remaining cabbage and flatten.

Bake in an oven preheated to 180 ° C for 30 minutes.

Serve the hodgepodge in portions. Sprinkle with finely chopped parsley before serving.
